UN PONT CARAGA STARTED 2012 WITH A SUCCESSFUL MISSION.

After weeks of mission call, a number of urgent quick meetings, a series of unexpected frustrating arrangements with the vehicle to transport the relief goods to CDO, Un Pont Caraga, at last, was able to deliver the donations to the flood victims of Sendong on January 6, 2012.

The call for a Flood Mission to help Sendong flood victims in CDO and Iligan was started last December 20, 2012 in lieu of the planned Pamaskong Handog ng Un Pont Caraga for the less fortunate in Butuan City. Benifiting a minimum of 500 families, the relief goods were donations from Tulay-Caraga graduates, their families & friends, and from the OFW friends of DFJomoc abroad. The relief goods were transported and formally turned over to Kaabag Foundation of Cagayan de Oro City, whom the later will be the one to repack and distribute the goods to the flood victims of Brgy. Macasandig, Cagayan de Oro City.

The mission was truly fulfilling. It's better to give than to receive.

In behalf of Un Pont Caraga (OWWA-Microsoft Tulay Alumni Club) and the Tulay Program in Caraga Region, I am extending my grateful thanks to all the kind-hearted donors, the ever active officers, the very supportive volunteers, the Kaabag Foundation, and to all who helped through prayers and in one way or another. Most of all, thank you God for giving us the ways and means to achieve the mission. To God be the glory!

October 20, 2011 marked the third year anniversary of the OWWA-Microsoft Tulay Program in Caraga Region. The celebration was simple but fun and educational and was attended by thirty-eight Tulay-Caraga graduates (Batch 2008 to 2011).

It started with the first implementation of the latest Tulay Program course "Learn and Earn Seminar-Workshop" which introduces ways and innovations that helps graduates utilize technology wisely.

The workshop was then followed with the 10th Graduation Ceremony of the July to October trainees.

The event also served as the 6th Get-together of the alumni where latest graduates met the old ones and ka-batches were able to reminisce their training days at OWWA CTLC.

For me, organizing the event without any revolving fund is stressful, but with its successful outcome, it was truly worthwhile. I am very proud of the Tulay-Caraga Officers & Alumni who are always very supportive, cooperative and understanding. I am very proud they became my trainees.

My utmost respect to our OWWA Director, Dr. Marieta Lumawag, our Tulay sa OFWs Cooperative BOD Chair, Mrs. Elisa C. Moran, our beloved Tulay Program facilitator Ms. Lynette B.Ysalina, graduating students, my fellow OFWs,Un Pont Caraga Officers and Alumni, dear dependents, guests, friends, ladies and gentlemen a pleasant afternoon to all.

The Warm Up Exercise

Welcome to the 3" Year Anniversary Celebration of the OWWA-Microsoft Tulay Progam and the 10th Graduation Ceremony & Get-together. I am just asking you to lend me a few minutes of your time to share some thoughts and to welcome the new graduates.

Let me start with a quote by Aristotle that says "Education is the best provision for old age." I chose this, not to tell you that we're too old to study and to learn, but it connotes to the newest module of the Tulay Program - the "Learn and Earn". That means the education you got is an investment. And lt will last throughout your life and into old age.

The Discusion

I was once like you who was given the chance to avail the computer literacy of OWWA. I am a computer Science graduate though, but I believe as time runs, technology changes.

Life nowadays is a rat race, One has to double his effort in order to meet the demands of time.

To the graduating men and women of this batch, you are considered as the cream of the crop. You are now equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge. Use it to uplift your life for the welfare of your family and to our nation as well.

The Workshop

ln behalf of the officers of Un Pont Caraga, our OWWA-Microsoft Tulay Alumni Club, I welcome you all.

Tulay and Un Pont is not different. "Un Pont" is just a French word of "Tulay". Since this program benefits the OFWs and their dependents, we want it to sound global and timely.

Un Pont Caraga's Vision and Mission is to promote camaraderie among OFWs and their dependents. We aim to be a good example of our children, to be a god citizen and to help our OWWA programs possible.

The Group Presentation

We have already conducted some humanitarian activities. Among others are the Flood Missions Part 1 and 2 last February 2011. The latest was the Tree Planting Mission last July 2011, and soon is the Give-a-Gift Mission on December.

As new graduates I would like you to invite to join us and be a part of our missions.

Again, Graduation is only a concept. ln real life, everyday, we graduate. Graduation is a process that goes on until the last day of our lives. lf you can grasp that, you'll make a difference. We will make a difference. Thank you and good afternoon!

For every Tulay Program trainee in Caraga Region, the Digital Media Fundamentals is considered as the most fun part during their Tulay Program experience. In this module, they tend to have fun through their pictorial sessions and edit their very own photos for the first time. What is most satisfying is compiling their photos and video clips and produce their very first home-movie. The challenge of finishing their movies on time, while perfecting them, made the experience worth treasuring for.

Truly, the first-cut is considered the deepest.

According to ehow.com, lots of people dream about a career making movies. It seems like a glamorous industry where dreams come true. The truth is, it is a business just like any other and the work involved is long, extensive and hard. It can all be worth it for the final product--being part of a great movie. There are tons of different kinds of jobs in the movie-making business, so people can find something that best suits their interests and talents.

This month's trainees in Digital Media dreamed not of a career in movie making but of making their very first movie using Windows Movie Maker. As first-timers with only two days to learn and apply what they learn, they were having a hard time coping with the time frame. But they sure did have fun.

AFRICAN TULIPS (The Un Pont Caraga Tree)

African tulip flowers give a very brilliant color because of which when the African Tulip tree is in full bloom, it is a showstopper.

Spathodea is a monotypic genus of flowering plants - with a single species, Spathodea campanulata, commonly known as the African tulip tree or Fountain tree or Flame-of-the-forest. African tulips are open and branched, evergreen trees of African forests.

African Tulips produce terminal clusters of beautiful blooms held above the foliage appearing in upturned whorls at the branch tips. A few at a time, the buds of the lowest tier bend outward and open into large bell-shaped orange-red flowers with a yellow border on the petals and four brown-anthered stamens in the center. They are followed by 5-10 in green brown fingerlike pods pointing upwards and outwards above the foliage.

Facts About African tulips

The generic name comes from the Greek word, in reference to the spathe-like calyx.
African tulip is native to tropical Africa.
It grows to about 7-25 m tall.
It is a decorative tree, because of their beautiful red tulip-like flowers.
African Tulip is also known as the fountain tree because of the water sealed in the flower buds, and if you were to slice it open, it would squirt out like a fountain.
African Tulip flowers are especially adapted for hummingbird pollination.

Mission Accomplished ....

"UN PONT CARAGA GOES GREEN!" is the 1st Tree Planting Mission of Un Pont Caraga, the OWWA-Microsoft Tulay Alumni Club in Caraga Region, in coordination with Butuan City ENRO & OWWA-Caraga, conducted on July 16, 2011 at Villa Kanangga, Butuan City along Macapagal Bridge.

The alumni, consisting of 25 volunteers, were able to plant 200 African Tulips seedlings. Years from now, and by God's blessings, those trees will bloom and grace the highway and give weary passers-by the comfort of fresh air and cool shade.

The activity was truly a success. Next challenge? Tree Nurturing!!!!

SEC. BALDOZ VISITED TULAY-CARAGA

DOLE Secretary Rosalinda D. Baldoz visited CARAGA region on July 14-15, 2011 to inaugurate several livelihood and community-based employment projects in the province of Surigao del Norte and in Butuan City.

After the launching of the Oyster Mushroom Laboratory in Taguibo, Butuan City on July 15, Sec. Baldoz visited OWWA Regional Welfare Office and dropped by the OWWA Community Technology Learning Center (CTLC) where she met the current trainees of the Tulay Program.

During her brief visit at Tulay-Caraga, Sec. Baldoz emphasized the need for workers and jobseekers to arm themselves with productive skills for self-employment as an alternative to wage employment. She even encouraged the Tulay trainees to engage in business instead of working overseas.

COMPUTER LITERACY

According to wikipedia, computer literacy is the knowledge and ability to use computers and related technology efficiently, with a range of skills covering levels from elementary use to programming and advanced problem solving.

Computer skill is very essential nowadays, that both young and old should learn.

The free computer literacy training of OWWA focuses on the fundamentals of computers, internet & WWW, word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, digital media, database and web design. These free trainings are available for OWWA-member OFWs and their dependents.

Below are some reasons why beneficiaries of the OWWA-Microsoft availed the training modules.

FUN RUN IS TRULY FUN

Running if fun! Before you raise your eyebrows and ask, "What's fun in a run?", let me tell you again ... Running is fun!!! It is so simple, and yet so true that people tend to forget.

Running is really and truly fun when you do it for a cause.

Well? I just came home from the DepEd Fun Run for Better Education with my mom. The event was a nationwide simultaneous fun run, not only to celebrate the 150th Birthday of Dr. Jose Rizal, but also to encourage every Filipino to participate or contribute to upgrade the standard of education in public schools, with the theme “Every runner, a finisher. Every finisher, a winner."

Teachers, in all shapes and sizes, both young and old ... new entrants and retirables, came to join the activity with smiling faces and an aura of hope. Some parents, with their kids, came as well.

I am glad I joined. I was able to meet old and new faces ... faces who were also experiencing the fun in the run, like I do.

What's fun in the DepEd Fun Run? Running is a luxury, we can't do it everyday now that we are living in a rat race. Running is exerting untapped energy and shedding extra fat the right way. Running is a chance to take pictures. Running is having fun with colleagues, friends, acquaintances and strangers. Running is aiming to achieve a cause for better education for all Filipinos.

Running is fun when you start ...

ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE:

Name of Organization : Un Pont Caraga

Address : Butuan City, Caraga Region

BACKGROUND:

Un Pont Caraga is the association/club of all the graduates of the OWWA-Microsoft Tulay Program in Caraga Region consisting of the OWWA-member OFWs and their dependents.

It was formally organized on February 5, 2011 during the call for a flood mission to help the flood victims of Butuan City.

To date, Un Pont Caraga already has three hundred thirty-four (334) members, all computer-literate.

Un Pont Caraga was able to deliver two (2) Flood Missions last February 6 & 18, 2011.

CLUB LOGO: Design and Symbolism:

Laurel Leaves - symbolizes victory, prosperity and fame. It consist of thirteen leaves to signify Caraga Region being the 13th region in the country;

Globe - represents universality of the members who are ready to face the challenges brought about by globalization.

Sun - is the emblem of glory, brilliance and hope for a better future.

Bridge - signifies the members' patient stability and the desire for a change through unity and cooperation.

People Chain - symbolizes the members from the five provinces of Caraga Region, namely: Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Islands, joining forces to accomplish the Club's mission.

Considering the large influence of computers on our everyday lives today, there is no denying the fact that we all need to learn how to use a computer to our advantage and why computer lessons for OFWs are offered through the OWWA-Microsoft Tulay Program. It is a good thing that the training is given for free and is now available in Caraga Region.

Since computers are playing a large part of our daily processes and overall existence, the ignorance about technology, about computer to be exact, has got to stop.

Taking the challenge of the latest technology, the Tulay Trainees in Caraga Region have an undying thirst for knowledge. Because of this, they are more ready to entertain and take in information.

And so they said it, and did it ... the right way!

I am Nicelyn Millan, a resident in Ampayon,Butuan City, married and had daughter.I was an OFW before, I stopped working abroad for my daughter's sake.

I availed the OWWA-MICROSOFT TULAY PROGRAM because I want to learn the basic computer operation.

I want to be a computer literate because I want to learn how to surf in the internet, browse at facebook, and do word processing. I want to enhance my knowledge and prepare myself to be relevant in this modern technology.

In the future, I will use my computer skills in teaching my daughter and impart what I learned. My knowledge will help a lot in communicating with my husband using this modern tech.

I am Carolina M. Villamor, mag-tatatlumpong taong gulang may isang anak na lalake, nakatira sa Cabadbaran City. Ang asawa ko ay kasalukuyang nag tatrabaho sa Jeddah.

Nais ko'ng matutong gumamit ng computer, at nais ko ring mag aplay ng trabaho kahit sa abroad sa pamamagitan ng computer, at sa pamamalakad sa aking negosyo.

The first day of my training seemed so difficult, but later on I was able to catch up and follow the instructions.

My first computer training here in Tulay-Caraga, was so funny. Some of us had no experience in computer. We always ask for help. Some of my classmates did not know how to use the mouse, and some of us cannot follow instructions since we are all beginners who are interested to learn about computer.

T.C.A.C MADE IT TO THE REGIONAL FEDERATION

The Tulay Caraga Alumni Club (TCAC) made it to the Regional Federation of OFW Family Circles.

Represented by the TCAC President Ms. Daisy F. Jomoc, the voices of the Tulay-Caraga graduates, the Tulay sa OFWs Producers Cooperative, and the OFWs of Butuan City was heard during the 1st Regional Consultation of OFW Family Circles held on May 16-17, 2011 at Almont Beach Resort, Lipata, Surigao City.

With the event was the election of Provincial and Regional Federation Officers.

Ms. Jomoc was elected President of the Agusan del Norte Federation, and secretary of the Caraga Regional Federation.

In the other hand, April 2011 Tulay-Caraga graduate, Ms. Marilou C. Alanunay represented the OFWs of Sta. Josefa Agusan del Sur. She was elected secretary of the Agusan del Sur Provincial Federation.

To all representatives, congratulations for a job well done!!! With your cooperation, this is only the beginning of OWWA-Caraga effort to better serve the OFWs and the country as well.

To Misses Daisy and Marilou, you made Tulay-Caraga proud!

The Digital Media Fundamentals training of the OWWA-Microsoft Tulay Program is all about movie making fun. Trainees of this module learn the basics and enjoy creating their own movies and burning so you can watch them whenever you want.

Using this Windows Movie Maker, they are taught the important film making tips and techniques and allow them to be creative in making their own home movie.

Below are some outputs. After watching all their work you can then conclude that even first-timers, with only two days of training, can do it with flare. With practice, they might even make it to the Oscars.

8th GRADUATION CEREMONY

"Graduation" by definition is the successful completion of a program of study. April 1, 2011 marks the completion of the training sessions of the thirty-two (32) trainees of the OWWA-Microsoft Tulay Program in Caraga Region for the months of January to March 2011.

The simple ceremony lasted for an hour and followed by OWWA's "Health Comes First" seminar with Dr. Sodusta as guest speaker.

Here comes April ... fire trees are beginning to bloom ... birds are happily chirping their sweet songs. From burnt leaves to fragrant flowers ... the sweet scent of summer is in the air. Definitely, the promise of summer is here.

Summer seems to be the most awaited season of the year. It is an occasion where people take a break and escape from the busyness of school and work. Summer is the time for people to enjoy the sun and the cool beaches. It is a time to go out and forget the stress and strains of daily existence.

Surely, all of us wanted to spend our summer wisely, right?

Being bored on summer days are a big waste. Fun and productive activities are everywhere.

Take up a job

Many companies hire teenagers during the summer season. Most companies face a crunch, what with existing staff vacationing with their families. Hence, for those with career aspirations, get a job. Who's hiring? Almost everyone. If you have a skill, leverage it. Right from BPOs, software firms, advertising agencies, newspapers, corporates, hospitals, hotels... the list is endless.

Take up a hobby

Ya, right. So you've heard this before. But this time around, make it happen. First of all choose your hobby well. Let it be something you've been dying to do all your life. First of all, remember to list all the things you've wanted to do. Then identify the hobby that best fits your time, budget, and location.

Learn

Learn a new skill this vacation. Let it be a crash course on enhancing communication skills -- gaining this has become very essential for everyone. It could be a short typing course to enhance your typing skills.
Or it could be something more tangible like a short-term JAVA course or some other computer language. It could be a new language that you could learn. It could also be a semi-vocational course like tailoring or sketching. Something that will help you build your technical skills.
Or, if you are an OFW or a dependent, you can enrol for a free computer literacy course offered through the OWWA-Microsoft Tulay Program. Learning ICT will help you bridge in the technological divide with your loved-ones here and overseas.

Learn a new game

It's never too late to learn a new game. If you are hooked on to Playstation, move on to something else -- like the Age of Empires. Games are a huge industry and who knows, one of you might get into the industry because of your sheet passion for the game. And then, if you are the brick and mortar type, run to your local toy shop and buy something for yourself. I know a lot of young people out there who love to construct and deconstruct toys/games.

Go adventure-hunting

If you are the adventurous type, the world has suddenly opened up for you. Hunt for new places where you can vacation and conduct adventure sports. It could be a local dam that very few have heard of or it could be the mountain patch that becomes accessible during this season.
Explore, talk, and reach out. Go bird-watching, join nature trails, or go back-packing. Remember to do all this based on expert guidance.
In Caraga Region, there are lots of wonderful places that needs exploring. You may want to visit Tinuy-an Falls, Enchanted River and Cagwait Beach of Surigao del Sur, or go surfing at Siargao, Surigao del Norte. The Agusan Marsh of Agusan del Sur are also awe-inspiring place to go. For the classical souls, visiting the historical sites (e.g. Sto. Niño Shrine and National Museum) of Butuan City are best for you.

Nurture a pet

It could be something as no-high-maintenance like a cat. If you have the will and the time, you could get yourself a dog, a rabbit, a duck, love birds, and such animals. Talk to someone who knows about animals to make your choice.

Do some volunteering

For the socially conscious, may be volunteering with some local social agency might be a good idea. There are many voluntary groups that regularly require youngsters to contribute to their effort. Especially, the NGOs that work with street children. You could enroll up for one of these.

Create a study group

The best way to share knowledge is to create study groups. These are groups of like-minded people, who come together to share thoughts and ideas. Some of the greatest thoughts in history have come due to interactions within the young, like you. Decide on a place and a time. Choose a topic to discuss and run it to ground. Many who are petrified of group discussions can find this activity beneficial.

Learn a new tool

There are some who learn when they create. Learn a new tool... it could be working with a pick-axe or learning to use the scissor well. You could even learn tools like the tools from different ethnicities.
What are the tools the Chinese use to make moh-mohs? (the answer is... they don't call them moh-mohs, they call them dumplings...)

Connect with the spiritual you

This could be a good time to de-stress yourself, especially if the next year is going to be an academically challenging year. Learn some yoga, some meditation technique, try vipassana, or may be pranayama. Choose whatever you think suits your personality the best. Sometimes doing something as mundane as cooking can be de-stressing for some people. Identify the task that helps you de-stress and works towards a calmer you.

You can add anything else you want to accomplish this summer. Then go for it! Make the most of the summer while you can. But, remember, the idea is to have fun! Whatever you don't get to, you can aim for next year.

NATURE TRIPPING FOR SINGLES AND NOT

Who said single people can't have a lot of fun? With the company of jolly and fun-loving friends, bonafide singles and even soon-to-be singles and singles-before can paint the world in full colors and laugh to their hearts content more than those who are paired.

Nature Trips are outdoor learning experience filled with fun activities and adventure. These can be held at tourist places, hidden and unexplored local places and even in urban parks.

Nature tripping can be one of the adventures that singles (and not) can take. Rain or shine, viewing nature at each finest and even at its worst could be an exhilarating experience.

If you plan to have your share of nature tripping in the southern part of Caraga Region, you may explore Tinuy-an Falls and the Enchanted River in Surigao del Sur.

Ever encountered preparing your report during the last minute of your deadline only to find out that the report requirement guide was written in Microsoft Word 2007 ending with a .docx extension? If you don't have the latest Microsoft Word version and a clue on what to do to open and print the file, or convert it from .docx to .doc and other text formats, then just prepare to be late in submitting your report and expect for the worst.

But hey, no worries, here are some very simple solutions on handling .docx file when you don't have Microsoft Office Word 2007.

The .docx files, which are now the default file extension in Microsoft Word 2007, are essentially a bunch of zipped XML documents - you can even rename the file extension from .docx to .zip and then extract the file contents using Winzip or some other decompression tools.

The following blog was posted by Ms. Airesh Mae P. Edrad in her blogsite "Home Matters" just recently. Ms. Edrad is a Tulay-Caraga Graduate, batch Jan 2011.

In her post, she was able to reminisce childhood memories during rainy days. I am reposting it here, with her permission, so we will also be reminded that rainy days, in the eyes of a child, do not always mean flooded streets and flood missions. Rainy days will always be fun days if we will take good care of mother earth.

Rainy Days...

I remember when I was a kid, I felt excited when it rains, coz for me when the water rises and became flood, it is play time! The adults in our extended family will cut some banana tree ("bani" in Bisaya) then they will make a boat out of it, and called it "boating-boating". Then, we used to ride on it, with an adult accompanying us, and brought us into a higher place at my grandma's house.

The government sectors used to bring us some relief goods, and it would mean free food, and that my parents will no longer worry on what to feed us. Usually, relief goods contain a can of corned beef, (which, for me, was the most delicious viand for a meal), a can of sardines, noodles and NFA rice.

It was like a family reunion gathered together at my grandparents house. We, kids, used to play hide-and-seek, balay-balay (bahay-bahayan), paper dolls, tell stories, and a lot more games to prevent boredom.

Sometimes during night when there's no electricity, we have this little program we called "amateur hour". We sang songs, dance to the music - showcasing our hidden talents just like "Pilipinas got Talent". The winner used to get a rewards, too - a crown made of cigarette silver, sash made of old paper written with some message, which, during that time, I don't know what they wrote on it. It was the best award I ever had in my entire childhood. I won as a second best.

Our parents never let us feel that flood is a calamity. They made us feel how to be happy and be thankful for the people who gave us food for free! I even enjoyed watching rats drowning, garbages floating and the army of ants that have no place to go climbing on the wood, and watching our little paper boat sailing like a pirate ship.

Now, those days were just happy memories to reminisce. A part of my childhood that makes me thankful for every little goodness and blessings I have in life. It was an important part of my past who builds me up into a better me.

I now understand clearly why the adults of our family had to cut some bani (banana trees) and made it a boat for us to ride and took us into a safer place... they wanted us to be safe without alarming about the fact that heavy rains that causes flood is dangerous.

In the other hand, this kind of calamity serves as an eye opener to everyone. People came to realize to make an extra care of our planet in their on little way and to help the needy people as well. Just like what the OWWA-Microsoft Tulay-Caraga Alumni Club volunteers just did during their Flood Missions.

It was just an ordinary rain continuosly pouring for days. Yet it caused the city streets and our house knee-deep submerged with flood water.

As I was stranded from reporting for work, I was able to watch closely the raindrops moving back and forth along the telephone wires outside my bedroom window. I was amazed how these little drops can fill low spaces with water and ruin man's worldly possesions.

God's mighty power was represented by the tiny raindrops that day ... the power that can end all creatures on earth ... anytime.

The raindrops and the flood that devastated Butuan City a week ago revitalized the Tulay Caraga Alumni Club (TCAC) - the alumni association of the graduates of the OWWA-Microsoft Tulay Program in Caraga Region . With the mind and heart to support humanitarian causes, the members came together for the first-ever Flood Mission in the history of the Tulay Program.

For it's three-days operation, from planning, to packing and to the distribution, the Tulay Caraga Alumni Club (TCAC) was able to provide relief goods for fifty (50) flood victims of Brgy. Mahogany, Butuan City through the members' personal contributions. The event was conducted during the Butuan Relief Operation in coordination with DOLE, OWWA, POEA, City Gov't of Butuan & Friends of Jijil just this morning (February 6, 2011).

Indeed, every little things, like those raindrops, can make things grand as long as it pours continuosly.

Our special thanks to Sir Ronnie and the rest of the OWWA-Caraga family for all the support.

RAINY DAY FUN TIPS

When it rains, it pours. Heavy rains like today would mean no classes for pre-schoolers, graders and high-school students in Butuan City. It can be a parent's worst nightmare, suddenly trapped with a house full of antsy kids.

But if you plan ahead, you can keep your children entertained while learning something despite the weather.

Here are a few tips from the teachers of the Kansas National Education (KNEA):

Keep a collection of old - but entertaining - clothing so that your kids can play dress-up. Some items may include hats, shoes, dresses, wigs and trousers with suspenders. You'll be surprised what sorts of games kids will play when they take on new characters in their new clothes.
A puppet show can cure boredom. Make a stage out of old cardboard boxes or even buy one and have the kids help make puppets out of old socks or popsicle sticks.
Have an indoor picnic. Pack a basket of goodies, spread a blanket out on the floor and pretend you're in the woods.
Be on the lookout for fun pictures that you find in magazines and newspapers. Cut these out and keep them in an old shoe box or ice-cream bucket then let kids pick out three pictures each. Ask them to make up a story that involves each of the pictures that they have chosen.
Bake and decorate cookies. Make multicolored frosting using a few drops of food coloring mixed with plain white icing. Kids can use toothpicks to decorate the cookies. Don't forget to supply them with plenty of sprinkles.

In the life of a Tulay Trainer, with same lessons delivered over and over each month, everything starts to look the same and boring.

Training exercises and trainees' outputs from encoding their very first document, to correcting and formatting it to perfection ... from designing their customized calendar, to having fun with their first computerized comics ... it’s extremely hard to get away from the sameness of the Tulay days.

In each training activities however, some Tulay trainees manage to set themselves totally apart from everyone else and produce stunning designs with inspiration seemingly flowing directly out of their fingers and into their work.

In this post, we will take a look at a few of those Tulay trainees and some of their outputs which they do to be unique from everyone else despite the sameness of the lesson and training exercise.

My first training experience thru the Tulay Program was so exciting, knowing that I will be able to learn add my knowledge in computer. It was fun meeting my trainer who teaches us in many ways, not only in basic computer operation but also in some personal-enhancement lifetime lessons. I am glad to meet my classmates, too.

In today’s “Word Processing Fundamentals” training, I expect to learn in office works that can help me in doing my kid’s assignment in school.

January 3, 2011 marks the beginning of another year for the implementation of the OWWA-Microsoft Tulay Program in Caraga Region. What remarkable events will be in store for the program, the graduates, the trainees and the trainer alike in 2011?

The answers to this question will surely depend on the annual target for this year, the regular activities and the unpredictable circumstances. Looking forward to the future with great hope that everything will turn out fine is a good start this year.

But as we look forward, it is also important to look back and see a glimpse of the past. By looking back, we will be getting ourselves ready to look forward. History gives us the secure foundation we need, to become visionary about what the future might hold.

Hence, presenting herewith is the comparative summary of the accomplishments of the OWWA-Microsoft Tulay Program in Caraga Region from October 2008 to December 2010.

THE TRAINING OUTPUTS:

From October 2008 until December 2010, the OWWA-Microsoft Tulay Program in Caraga Region was able to produce a module count total of 1,242 graduates. As shown in Chart 1, 50% of these graduates availed their trainings in 2010, 46% in 2009, and 4% in 2008.

The free ICT trainings offered through the OWWA-Microsoft Tulay Program can be availed by OFWs and their dependents, both land-based and sea-based.

Chart 3 shows the comparative summary of the module count total number of OFW graduates per work base. As shown, Land-based graduates leads a considerable amount compared to the number of Sea-based graduates. This data is only natural since there are only a few Sea-based OFWs in Caraga Region.

In the other hand, Chart 4 shows the module count total number of OFW Dependents who graduated from OWWA-Microsoft Tulay Program from 2008 to 2010 as compared per work-base. As shown, Dependents of Land-based OFWs who availed the trainings still leads compared to Sea-based.

As depicted in Chart 5 below, Male graduates lags Female graduates. Does it mean that genderwise, Females are more interested in ICT trainings than Males? Or does it imply that Males just don't have time for trainings than Females?

THE REMARKABLE EVENTS:

- February 10, 2010 : OWWA CTLC-Caraga was one of the two CTLCs in the country that were invited to represent & deliver testimonial during the Microsoft Grant Announcement on February 10, 2010 at the Microsoft Office, 17/F 6750 Ayala Office Tower, 6750 Ayala Avenue, Makati City, Metro Manila. - March 30, 2010 : The TCAC's Tulay sa OFW Producers Cooperative produced its Chicken and Pork Tocino. The Tocino production is the third business venture of the Cooperative.

- May 1, 2010 : OWWA RWO-Caraga recognized six (6) successful & active Tulay graduates during the Labor Day Celebration of the Department of Labor & Employment.

- May 4, 2010 : Conducted the 5th Tulay-Caraga Graduation & Get-together at Goat2Geder Hotel & Restaurant, Imadejas Subd., Butuan City . Two graduates, Mr. Dominador D. Seno and Mrs. Elizabeth M. Ofianga, were interviewed and featured by ABS-CBN Butuan.

- June 7, 2010 : OWWA RWO-Caraga recognized the TCAC's Tulay sa OFW Producers Cooperative for its active involvements in any OWWA events.

- June 24-25 : The Microsoft Team headed by Guy Tucker, with Ms. Mae Rivera-Moreno of Microsoft Phils, and Ms. Susan V. Ople & Mr. Fort Jose of the Ople Center, visited Tulay-Caraga to document remarkable success stories. The documentary includes the success stories of the TCAC's Tulay sa OFW Producers Cooperative, Mrs. Elizabeth M. Ofianga and Mrs. Rufina C. Sanusi.

- July 14, 2010 : The TCAC's Tulay sa OFW Producers Cooperative was duly registered by the Cooperative Development Authority as a legal entity.

- September 15, 2010: Induction of the newly elected and appointed officers of the TCAC's Tulay sa OFW Producers Cooperative.

- September 27, 2010 : Mrs. Elisa C. Moran, one of the successful Tulay-Caraga Graduates, participated in the testimonial interview via phone patch during the "OWWA loves OFWs" program with DZRH

- October 5, 2010 : Conducted the 6th Tulay-Caraga Graduation & Get-together an hour before the MOFYA 2010 Regional Awarding.

- December 12, 2010 : The TCAC's Tulay sa OFWs Producers Cooperative participated in the 2010 OFW Family Day held in Surigao City as exhibitor.

- December 16-17, 2010 : The TCAC's Tulay sa OFW Producers Cooperative participated in the 2010 Trade Fair held in Davao City as exhibitor.

- December 20, 2010 : Conducted the 7th Tulay-Caraga Graduation Ceremony held at the OWWA Community Technology Learning Center.
